GBSC will be hosting The Round Britain and Ireland race Galway Stopover in late May and early June. This prestigious and historical race will involve approximately 40 boats, many two-handed, sailing a grueling course from Plymouth to Galway to Lerwick in the Shetland Islands to Blythe and back to Plymouth. The boats will stop for a brief break of 48 hrs. at each port before continuing their voyage.
This week the club hosted Adrian Gray, Rear Commodore Oceanic for Royal Western Yacht Club, the organizers of the race. In addition to detailed discussions and planning, both Adrian and Commodore Johnny Shorten were interviewed about the race on Galway Bay FM. The team also met with Captain Brian Sheridan, Harbormaster of the Port of Galway.
There is a lot of organization involved in bringing this event to Galway and if you'd like to help out in any way please contact the team at rbi@gbsc.ie
