Fáilte Roimh na Oppies

Ba mhaith linn céad míle fáilte a chur roimh na seoltóirí go léir a bheidh ag rásaíocht í mBá na Gaillimhe. A very warm welcome to all the Optimist sailors who will be arriving in Galway on July 20th and 21st for the 2024 Connacht Optimist Championships.

Information for Visiting Boats

The club will be open to welcome you from 4pm on Friday, 19 th July. Registration will be open from 4 – 6 pm Friday evening and from 8.30 am – 10 am Saturday morning. Visiting oppies can be stored in the dinghy park in designated areas in front of the clubhouse. Trailers can be stored in the designated area in the camping field beside the club. Event parking will be signposted. Please do not park in the clubhouse grounds. Car park attendants will be on site to aid and direct visitors to the correct areas. RIB trailers can be stored in the cruiser park to the east of the clubhouse, directly opposite the pier. Space is limited, so an overflow area will be provided in the camping field. GBSC cannot accept responsibility for boats and trailers stored on club grounds.

Camping

Visitors are very welcome to camp at the club. Camping space will be available in the field to the west of the clubhouse on Friday and Saturday night. We are very grateful to our neighbours for allowing us to use their property, so please do not interfere with fences, walls or gates and we would really appreciate it if you could dispose of all rubbish carefully in bins located at the back of the clubhouse. Clubhouse toilets and changing rooms will be open each night. Camper vans are welcome to park behind the clubhouse.

Bar and Catering

Parents are welcome to join us in the clubhouse for teas and coffees each morning and Seahorse Café at the front of the club will be open throughout the weekend. The bar in the clubhouse will be open on Friday and Saturday evening. Lunches for sailors can be preordered from ‘ Seahorse Café’ via online booking. Please try to book as early as possible so that we have accurate numbers for the caterers. Lunches can be collected each morning from Seahorse café between 9 and 10 am.

Local Facilities

For boat parts or chandlery supplies, contact Galway Maritime in Galway City. The nearest shop and service station is Grealy's in Maree which is about 3km from the club. The nearest supermarkets, bars, restaurants, banks, etc. are in Oranmore which is about 4km from the club. Some of our local restaurants offer takeaway food.

Activities for children.

For our younger visitors, Renville forest park and playground are located in Renville park, adjacent to the causeway to the Sailing club.

IMC Cinema and ‘Busy Bees’ indoor play centre are both located in Oranmore

Business park on the outskirts of the village, adjacent to the Maldron Hotel.

Medical Emergencies

We will have a first aid officer on standby during racing.

WestDoc, 0818 360000 is open 24 hours a day.

For other emergencies Laya Clinic, Ballybrit ( 15 mins from GBSC) is open from 10 am to 10 pm 0818 933030

University Hospital Galway’s A and E department is open 24 hours.
