In recent months the ISA has been considering the viability of developing a National Watersports Centre. Following a call for ‘Expressions of Interest' we now need to explore in more detail what facilities a National Watersports Centre might cater for, and what real benefits such a facility will bring to the sport.
As with any major project involving change, it is essential the ISA Board takes into account the views of the membership before any proposals are considered.
The ISA President and Chief Executive would like to meet with ISA members to hear your thoughts and discuss various options.
Some of the issues raised will include a ‘needs' analysis for the provision of a National Centre that may provide facilities for some or all of:
- High performance training
- Hosting major sailing, and power boating events
- Training at all levels
- ISA staff offices
- Municipal clubhouse facilities for local watersports clubs
- Schools Programmes
• Social Inclusion Programmes
There are arguments both ‘for' and ‘against' most of the above. Consideration should be given to:
- The publicity and profile that a National Centre may generate
- The impact on existing ISA Clubs and Training Centres
- ISA role and responsibilities for running a National Centre
• Long term benefits and/or liabilities for the Sport
The following meetings have been scheduled: 1. Tues 16/2/10, National Yacht Club @ 7pm 2. Wed 17/2/10, Howth Yacht Club @ 7pm 3. Mon 1/3/10, Royal Cork Yacht Club @ 7pm 4. Wed 3/3/10, Galway Bay Sailing Club - Renville, Oranmore @ 7pm
All ISA members are welcome to attend.
